Expert Session-Forensic Odontology held on 8th December-2023

Narnarayan Shastri Institute of Technology (NSIT) has started with the expert session on various topics and the second session was held on 8th of December 2023 at 11am in room number 122 of NSIT. The students from M.Sc. Forensic Science attended the session.

The speaker for the day was Dr. Dhwani Patel ma’am, Assistant Professor, School of Medico-Legal Studies, National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) Gandhinagar.

Dr. Dhwani Patel holds a degree in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) as well as a bachelor of Law (LLB) (Gold medalist) and Master’s degree in Forensic Odontology and is also pursuing PhD in the field of Human Identification. She has been in to Academics and Teaching for more than 7 years and have clinical experience of more than 8 years. Dr. Dhwani is also experienced in dealing with medical negligence and malpractice having the knowledge of both medical as well as law. She holds the charge as a program co-ordinator for the course of M.Sc. Forensic Nursing and Post graduate Diploma in Disaster Victim identification.

She is very passionate about learning new concepts and experimenting with different areas of forensic science. She is actively involved in organizing different activities for the students as well as guiding them with respect to placement opportunities.

 

Dr. Geeta Gupta, course co-ordinator of M.Sc. Forensic Science welcomed Dr. Dhwani Patel and briefed about the guest speaker to the students. The lecture started at around 11am on the topic “FORENSIC ODONTOLOGY”. Dr. Dhwani Patel commenced the session with a captivating keynote address, highlighting the current trends and challenges in Forensic Odontology. The session featured an engaging Q&A segment, allowing participants to pose questions to Dr. Dhwani. The session covered wide range of topics including basics of odontology and forensic odontology, Identification of individuals from teeth, Ages of eruption and other individual, Determination of age, sex and race from teeth characteristics, Role of teeth in mass disaster and Forensic significance in individual identification.

 

Dr. Dhwani has also presented relevant case studies and examples for better understanding of various concepts and helped participants to contextualize theoretical concepts and understand their practical applications. The session continued till 1:30pm. The expert session conducted by Dr. Dhwani Patel on December 8th, 2023, was a resounding success. The event not only met its objectives but also set a high standard for future expert sessions within the Narnarayan Shastri Institute of Technology (NSIT). The event was graced with the presence of faculty members of Institute of Forensic Sciences & Cyber Security-NSIT.

 

Expert Session-Criminal Justice System held on 2nd December-2023

Narnarayan Shastri Institute of Technology (NSIT) has started with the expert session on various topics and the first session was held on 2nd December 2023 at 11am in the seminar hall of NSIT. The students from B.Sc.- M.Sc. Forensic Science, M.Sc. Forensic Science and M.Sc. Cyber Security attended the session. The speaker for the day was Dr. Pavithran Nambiar sir, Senior Assistant Professor, School of Police Science and Security Studies, National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) Gandhinagar. Dr. Pavithran Nambiar sir has put 39 years’ service in Gujarat Police (India), and during this tenure, worked in different divisions of police department viz., State Reserve Police, Communication, Intelligence, CID Crime and Research. Along with his job, he pursued his studies and secured B.A., M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. from Gujarat University. He was conferred with the prestigious President’s Medal for Meritorious Service in 2003. He has 15 years’ research experience in the Police Research Centre of State CID Crime, Gujarat. His expertise lies in Policing, Intelligence, Counter Terrorism, US Homeland Security, and Disaster Management.

 

The programme was anchored by Mr. Verma Sourabh Dineshchandra, student of M.Sc. Cyber Security. He briefed about the guest speaker to the students. Dr. Pavithran Nambiar sir started his lecture on the topic “CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM”. Dr. Nambiar commenced the session with a captivating keynote address, highlighting the current trends and challenges in Criminal Justice System. He shared his experiences and observations, providing a comprehensive overview of the evolving landscape. The session featured an engaging Q&A segment, allowing participants to pose questions to Dr. Nambiar. The interactive discussion covered a wide range of topics, including Broad components of criminal justice system. Structure of Criminal Justice System in India; Role of Legislature and Law making; Coordination among Criminal Justice System; Policing styles and principles; FIR; Rehabilitation and Community policing.

 

Dr. Nambiar has also presented relevant case studies and examples from his extensive professional experience. These real-world illustrations helped participants to contextualize theoretical concepts and understand their practical applications. The session continued till 3:30pm after the lunch break that was scheduled from 1pm to 2pm.

 

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Aaromal Venugopal, Assistant Professor (TRA). The expert session conducted by Dr. Pavithran Nambiar on December 2nd, 2023, was a resounding success. Dr. Nambiar’s expertise and engaging presentation style contributed to a meaningful and enriching experience for all participants. Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival dedicated to the worship of Lord Ganesha, we take pride in embracing the cultural diversity for NSIT.

  • Program Highlights:

The Ganesh Sthapana celebration featured a variety of cultural and religious activities

  1. Ganesh Sthapana: A beautifully eco-friendly crafted idol of Lord Ganesha was installed in a specially decorated shrine. The idol represented Lord Ganesha’s divine presence. The Puja was performed by our Honourable Principal (Dr). Nikunj Bhrahmbhatt with faculty, staff and students.
  2. Prayers and Aarti: Students and faculty members including Vice-President and Principal gathered to offer prayers, bhajans and aarti to seek Lord Ganesha’s blessings.
  • Eco-friendly Initiative:

In line with the growing concern for environmental conservation, NSIT emphasized the use of eco-friendly materials for the idol and decorations. The idol was crafted from biodegradable materials.

At Conclusion The Ganesh Sthapana celebration at NSIT was a beautiful manifestation of our commitment to celebrationg diversity, culture and religious traditions. It not only provided an opportunity for students to engage in religious and cultural rituals but also promoted a sense of unity and understanding among our diverse student body.

 

 

National Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar Visit, 6th Sep, 2023

Educational tours are a valuable aspect of the learning experience, providing students with the opportunity to gain real-world exposure to academic institutions and foster a deeper understanding of their field of study.
 
Tour Highlights:

  1. NFSU Campus Tour – The visit commenced with a guided tour of the NFSU campus, including visits to various Centres of Excellence of Narcotics Drugs and Substances, Ballistics Range, Behavioural Sciences, Food Testing and Dopping Test laboratory, Cyber Defense Centre, DNA Fingerprinting, libraries, laboratories, classrooms and other academic programs.
  2. Interactions with NFSU faculty- There was an opportunity for students to engage in discussions with professors and academic advisors, facilitating academic and career guidance.
  3. Research Facilities- Visit specialized research centers and laboratories and expose students to advanced equipment and research opportunities.
  4. NFSU campus Life – Students had the chance to interact with current NFSU students, gaining insights into campus life, extracurricular activities, and student organizations.

  2. Krishna Idol: A beautifully decorated idol of Lord Krishna, representing his divine childhood form, was placed in a specially decorated shrine.
  3. Matki Phod: A Matki was suspended normally above the ground, filled with curd and butter. Students with faculty members enthusiastically attempted to break the pot blindfolded, reminiscent of Krishna’s playful nature.
